Nina, an eight-year-old girl, receives a guitar as a gift from her mother. When she plays it, her emotions bring Spot to life — a small being made of wood shavings and timber who represents the embodiment of her emotional health. Spot becomes a silent witness to Nina's growth, and as she reaches adolescence, he shares her emotions and insecurities. Every feeling transforms her, and him along with her: when Nina laughs, Spot fills with life, but as her mental health worsens, his body of shavings begins to fall apart.
